The vise is tightening around Donald Trump as 2024 decision looms

One thing is clear from the FBI's Monday search of Donald Trump’s Mar-aLago estate. Trump wrote on Truth Social on Monday night, "My beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago, Palm Beach, Florida is currently under siege and raided and occupied by large groups of FBI agents."

Trump added that they even broke into his safe. Agents seem to be focusing on the area where Trump's offices and living quarters are located.

It wasn't immediately clear what the FBI wanted -- or what specifically the agents were searching for. CNN was told by a source that boxes of items were taken in the course of the search.

We know that federal investigators issued an order to the National Archives and Records Administration in May to obtain classified documents taken to Trump's Florida home.

This was part of a grand jury investigation into Trump or any other close to him handling classified documents he took to the White House after he left the White House in January.

15 boxes from White House records that Trump brought to Mar-a-Lago earlier this year were retrieved by the National Archives and returned. The items included letters from former President Barack Obama and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

The FBI search comes at the same time that Maggie Haberman from The New York Times revealed photos showing torn-up notes that appeared to show Trump's penmanship in the toilets. One of the notes was also in the White House.
